Hi, I’m Joan.  I love sweets, enjoy baking and have a passion for decorating cookies.

I live with my husband, Tom in suburban Washington, DC in Northern Virginia. I grew up on the East Coast, attended college in Washington, DC and worked as a Legal Secretary in various law firms. I made the commute to downtown Washington for 29 years and gave up the daily grind a few years ago. Since then I've been able to tap into my creative side. I had a calligraphy business for two years and started my cookie blog eight years ago.

My mother, Gloria taught me to bake when I was a little girl and I have lovely memories of those days in the kitchen. I've always had a sweet tooth and vividly remember running from the school bus into the house and my delight to find a layer cake, cupcakes or chocolate chip cookies on the kitchen counter. My mother and two maternal aunts, Rosemary and Betty, also avid bakers were influential in my life and taught me not only about baking but independence, self-confidence and grace. I find joy in baking by continuing my family traditions and creating many of their delicious recipes.

There are two reasons I started this blog. One is to share with my nephews our family history and childhood memories of growing up with their Dads. The other is to share my all-time favorite recipes, tips and techniques. Most postings will be decorated cookies, a recently-acquired passion. Other favorite cookie and cake recipes will be sprinkled in. I'll demonstrate cookie decorating with step-by-step photo and video tutorials. This blog is to spread the fun to all sweet lovers. Come follow me on my cookie projects, visit often and enter My Cookie Clinic.
