ZEBRA STRIPE COOKIES/ Natitude

Springtime in DC means baseball. We’re all nuts for our Washington Nationals. After a long drought, baseball finally returned to DC in 2005. Before then, to see a baseball game meant a long drive to watch the Baltimore Orioles.

During the first three seasons, the Nats played in the old RFK Washington Redskins football stadium until a spanking new stadium was built near the waterfront in 2008. So far, the team is 18-14 with awesome catches by Jayson Werth (my fav) and big hits by Bryce Harper, who was our teenage phenom at age 19 and now a two-year veteran. Ryan Zimmerman, Danny Espinosa and Adam LaRoche are threats at the plate. In 2012, we made it to the playoffs and won the Eastern Division Pennant and nearly reached the World Series. In DC, we’re hoping this is our year. Go Nats!

These cookies were made for my relatives in Chicago who we visited last month. Determined to pack light, I made these simple square zebra cookies which packed neatly into the bright yellow box that once contained golf balls. I squeezed a dozen cookies into the box and stuffed it into my Vera Bradley carry-on bag.

    1. Deb, Thanks! We did lots of sightseeing during a visit a few years ago. This was a quick trip to see my aunt, uncle and cousins. I thought of you being only a state and a half away as we boarded the plane heading west. I hope your twins have a good season. Thanks for commenting.

  6. These are so cute Joan! We are big baseball fans too, although we root for The Royals. My husband thinks that Bryce Harper is amazing! He made me watch him in the Home Run Derby last year....that "kid" has talent. His arms are HUGE! Every time they show highlights of Bryce, he has to remind me that he was drafted right out of high school and how much is contract is for. It is amazing to me that he can not remember our wedding anniversary, but can recite baseball facts at any given time. MEN!
