STAR COOKIES/ Patriotic Fourth



What comes to mind when you think of July 4th? Independence Day, of course! As you know, our Founding Fathers had the courage to declare independence from Great Britain which gave rise to a free and democratic country.  Did you know that Benjamin Franklin declared that the nation celebrate each and every year with joyous festivities, triumphant songs, grand parades and magnificent fireworks in the sky? Ben knew how to party!

Beyond the history of the day, what else comes to mind? Backyard barbeques, sparklers and red, white & blue. As we enjoy our annual July 4th celebration, remember the history of this day and how fortunate we are to be a part of this great country. 
 
These cookies are from an earlier post and are perfect for the occasion. One batch of cookie dough makes nearly three dozen star cookies. There is no need to color the icing as the sanding sugar provides the vibrant colors and the sparkle for your July 4th celebration.


Star Cookies
Star Shortbread Cookies
Royal Icing untinted for outlining 
Royal Icing untinted for flooding 
Disposable piping bag & couplers
Squeeze bottle 
Wilton Decorating Tip #2
CK Sanding Sugar in Red, White & Blue
Hint: No tint needed for royal icing since covering with sanding sugar.

Outline cookie with # 2 tip in untinted icing.

Flood cookie with untinted icing.

Sprinkle with red, white and blue sanding sugar. Gently shake off excess. Let dry overnight.

  4. I've just been browsing through your site. It's lovely as are your cookies. I did see these in an earlier post but they are worth repeating, especially today! I love how uncomplicated these are to do and how wonderfully patriotic they are made simply but adding the sanding sugar. I believe you just recently caught the cookie decorating bug and I wanted to tell you that your work is very, very, good. Lots of good information here on your site in addition to some wonderfully decorated cookies. I know you must love decorating and that's a good thing because once you've caught the bug...darn near impossible to get rid of it!     1. Paula, Thank you for your kind words and good wishes. I've seen your beautifully decorated cookies and it means a lot coming from you. I started decorating cookies in Dec 2011 and I cannot go more than a week without decorating. You stated somewhere recently where you travel with your mixer, cutters, icing tips, food colorings, etc. So, I see we've caught the same cookie decorating bug! Thanks for the follow on Twitter and I hope you had a happy 4th.
